Food has a way of teaching what textbooks sometimes cannot.

Last week, the Iber&Co team had the honour of visiting St Thomas More College in Malta for a very special initiative: a Paella Solidaria with the students learning Spanish at the school.

It was not just a cooking demonstration. It was a celebration of language, culture, community and generosity — all gathered around one of Spain’s most iconic dishes: paella.

A Spanish Lesson You Can Taste

The students studying Spanish had the opportunity to discover paella from the inside out: the ingredients, the rhythm, the colours, the smells and the little details that make this dish so special.

From the base of olive oil and vegetables to the rice, stock and final moment when everything comes together, the children followed the process step by step.

There were questions, smiles, curiosity and, of course, plenty of appetite.

For us, this is one of the most beautiful ways to share Spanish culture: not only by explaining it, but by cooking it together.

A Beautiful Initiative by the School

This event was made possible thanks to the initiative and dedication of the school community, especially Vanessa Zahra, Linettekarl and Dar tal Provenza, who welcomed us and helped create such a warm and meaningful experience for the students.

Their commitment to bringing Spanish language and culture to life made the day truly special.

It is always inspiring to see education go beyond the classroom and become something students can feel, taste and remember.

Honoured by the Presence of the Spanish Ambassador

The day was made even more meaningful by the presence of the new Spanish Ambassador to Malta.

Having the Embassy represented at an event dedicated to Spanish language, food and culture was a great honour for all of us.

It reminded us that gastronomy is not only about eating — it is also a bridge between countries, communities and generations.

What Is Paella Solidaria?

For Iber&Co, a Paella Solidaria is more than cooking a big pan of rice.

It is a way to bring people together, to share something generous, and to connect with the community through food.

Paella has always been a dish made for groups: families, friends, celebrations, neighbours. Bringing that spirit into a school environment felt natural, joyful and deeply meaningful.

Thank You, St Thomas More College

To the students: thank you for your enthusiasm, your questions and your smiles.

To the teachers and organisers: thank you for trusting Iber&Co and for creating an initiative with so much heart.

To everyone who joined us: thank you for making this event unforgettable.

We left with full hearts and the feeling that Spanish culture found a very special place at St Thomas More College that day.
